Nathan Lands Neighbours Role....

Nathan has been extremely busy discovering new things about his acting technique at Mooregrace over the past year. After landing an Agent a few months ago, he’s already impressed many Casting Directors in Melbourne. Last week he was requested for a Solo Commercial while this week he receives confirmation about his new role on Neighbours. Nathan is busy preparing for his role as a male nurse, one which is quite different to his normal aussie larrikin self. Acting isn’t new to Nath, he’s appeared on a Mars Commercial, The Secret Life of Us and many more Productions in the past. Nath doesn't take himself too seriously, which always helps in this industry! Top job Birdy!

Teens audition for Feature Film ‘Animal Kingdom’

Many of the MG Teens will be holding their breath over the next week in the hope of joining Guy Pearce and Joel Edgerton in a new Aussie Feature Film. The film follows a 17 year old character called ‘Joshua’ as he navigates his survival between an explosive criminal family and a cop who thinks he can save him. ‘The audition was extremely challenging, we had to improvise a scene, cold read a script and act against complete strangers’ said Santo – who made it past the third call-back. For all those lucky actors who made it as far as Santo, the waiting begins.... We wish all our actors the best of luck and we look forward to your amazing stories in class!

TAC commercial Casting at MG....

Yet again another Melbourne Casting Director has contacted Mooregrace Director Paul Moore for recommendations for a TAC commercial. When suggesting our talent for roles we always take into consideration their acting ability and attitude towards both their own craft and fellow actors. Working in a team environment is a massive part of our Acting Program.’ Four of our most experienced teens will fight it out on Monday for a Lead Role on a TAC commercial. This TVC would provide excellent exposure for these young actors while highlighting their acting ability at the same time... Do what you do best lads.. Nail it!

Hungry little Vegemites...

Talk about sinking your teeth into it! Many of our kids and teens have been rewarded with both featured and extra roles on Neighbours, Tangled and heaps of RMIT / SWINBURNE student films over the past few weeks. Kai recently tackled a heavy role on a 4th Year student film while Megan is busy convincing her parents she should be part of a LIVE Ch 31 Breakfast show. Our one and only ‘Jordan’ dazzled Chameleon Casting with a Short film audition on Saturday with an emotional storyline. It's never too late to get into acting @ Mooregrace - more and more families are being invited to auditions (with their kids) as Casting Directors are in the hunt for TV friendly parents. Normally these commercials pay quite alot of pennies so be open to it and roll with the punches!

Mooregrace holds Tropfest Auditions

Several MG teenagers and adults have been lucky enough to audition for two Tropfest Films this week. ‘Tropfest is regarded as one of Australia's most iconic cultural events, and the largest short film festival in the world. Tropfest is also known for its contribution to the development of the Australian film industry by providing unique platforms for emerging filmmakers through its events and initiatives, and new audiences for their work.’ As more and more film-makers approach Mooregrace for actors all teachers will be keeping a careful watch on those who nail their scenes in class. Right place, right time...

Who’s working on what… ?

It’s truly been a busy few months at Mooregrace with heaps of our actors getting themselves out into the industry. Megan has been busy working on the feature film ‘Read it in the stars’ and ‘No Junk mail’. Sam has been lucky enough to score work on City Homicide while Sally has been learning plenty on the new comedy series ‘Whatever happened to that guy’. Erin has been sinking her teeth into a lead role on a 4th year RMIT film while Mark and Judy have had a challenging time working on another final year movie. Since Blake made it down to the final few for Neighbours through the Dolly competition - he has been auditioning for many different commercials with his latest being last Friday for an Australian Feature Film. What a fantastic time for these young actors, keep up the amazing work!

Two Teams make Top 10 for Shootout Film Festival…

Our teens and adults both had their filmed screen last week at the Shootout 24hr film competition awards night. Both shorts were extremely well executed with our teen group winning the School prize. They have won a brilliant Village Cinemas package which allows them to invite all their friends to a private screening at Village. This type of recognition is such a wonderful thing for these young stars, they deserve every minute of it. Their film followed a troubled teen (Meg from our teens group) who finds a magical bracelet which turns her life upside down. The team used clean jump-cuts and fantastic cinematography to capture the films supernatural mood. We are very proud of everyone’s progress as both actors and film-makers. Congratulations guys!

James shoots RACV TVC

James from the MG teens has had his passion for acting really tested with a busy few weeks. Between playing the Lead character in his Geelong College Theatre Production, James received a call from Chameleon Casting regarding an RACV ad. He thought he would go for experience but little did her know that he would be shooting the TVC a week later. After finishing his dress rehearsal, James was driven to Melbourne where he shot the commercial. Just another day in the world of James..

Mark scores an Agent and tackles his first acting job!

Things are really starting to heat up for this MG Adult. On weekends he plays in a band called ‘People’s Poets’ and during the week he’s training to become a Professional actor. Between reading books, rehearsing scripts, researching roles and developing back-stories – Mark has just enough time left to be auditioning. That’s exactly what he’s been doing all last week. First he secured an agent, then to Chameleon for a short film audition, then to 2Divas Casting and then to his first acting job. Mark played a presenter for a new multi-million dollar Marketing Company called ibidam. Nice work Mate..

Big V shoots a TVC – Pet Stock..

Big V from the Mooregrace Adults has nailed her recent role on a Pet Stock commercial. She plays a healthy housewife who just can’t help checking out the hot personal trainer. ‘I love seeing our actors have so much fun on screen, it really shows how relaxed they are on set’ Said Studio Director Paul Moore. Big V has really been leading by example – finding her own auditions and being extremely pro-active. ‘She is a walking networking machine’ Said Paul. We all the know the story, people who sit around feeling sorry for themselves - waiting for their agent to ring are not cut-out for this industry!   <Click here to see the TVC NOW!>

The MG Production Company.. Up.. Up.. and AWAY!

Studio Directors Paul and Sarah are busy designing three 30 second television commercials for prime time TV. They have secured the deal to write, direct, produce and cast each commercial. The TVC’s won’t air until next year however the Mooregrace team is busy developing ideas and story-boarding each ad. All auditions - from major roles to extras will be held at the Geelong studio, keep checking the site for details! We are excited about this huge opportunity and hope to use as many Mooregrace students as possible in the entire process. Remember, if you’re not out of your comfort zone – you never learn anything!

Casting Agents Contact Mooregrace for Actors!

We have had several Casting Directors contact us directly looking for actors. These requests need to be handled urgently as each Casting Agent has strict deadlines. If you would like to be considered for these jobs, please ensure Mooregrace has an electronic version of your headshot and resume. This way, we can email your shots and hopefully organise an audition for you. Keep breaking boundaries and trying new things in class because you don’t want to miss your window of opportunity do you? We look forward to helping you get to where you want! ON TV!

TWO TEENS MAKE TOP 17 FOR NEIGHBOURS COMP!

Two of the MG teens are completely over the moon! They received a call yesterday from Fremantle Media congratulating them on making the short-list for a new role on Neighbours! Erin and Blake have been training with Mooregrace for years and boy are they ready for this amazing opportunity. They are frantically breaking down another three scenes for their next audition, which is on Saturday at Fountain Gate in-front of Casting Director ‘Jan Russ’. This is your window of opporunity, will you be ready? Remember guys, live it, be it, love it!

PAUL SHOOTS FEATURE TRAILER – SAKOOZ.......

Studio Director Paul Moore doesn’t believe in aliens but last week he certainly did! Paul was lucky enough to score a lead in a feature teaser, being used to launch a massive marketing campaign and ultimately – turn the sakooz script into a feature film. ‘I dodged fire balls, crashed cars, saw aliens, lost my wife and was chased by gun point - so much FUN!!.’ he said. ‘Battling freezing cold conditions, we still managed to keep a smile on our dial – acting is the best job in the world’. For all the latest info and pics about Sakooz and other Late Night Film Projects <CLICK HERE>

TERM 2 ‘ALMOST FAMOUS’ WINNERS 2008

The Team at Mooregrace would like to give all our students a massive high five this term; we have been blown away by some out-of-this world performances! It’s fantastic to see everyone - kids, teens and adults lose themselves in the moment and find the truth in every scene. The whole MG team have been able to train that little ‘Evil’ voice in their head, which makes them feel embarrassed - ‘GO AWAY!’. <CLICK HERE to see the Almost Famous Winners for term 2 >

SARAH GETS CALLED BACK FOR MOVIE & CITY HOMICIDE

Method Acting – You have to love it… Well, most of the time. Studio Director Sarah Grace has had her work cut out for her over the last couple of weeks. She has auditioned and received a call back for a lead role in an Australian horror film and has also gone through an extremely intense audition for the victim of a brutal crime in City Homicide. “It is times like these when you realise why actors get paid so much for what they do!” Sarah said. “To get in the head space of someone who has gone through an extremely traumatic ordeal is very draining”. But she wouldn’t change it for the world. “I love the challenge of not knowing what character you are going to play next. This is what it is all about!”

DARCI GET’S CALL-BACK FOR FEATURE FILM ‘BLESSED’

Darci McDonald certainly knows how to stand out in a crowd, that’s for sure. She’s busy preparing for her call-back audition for the movie ‘Blessed’. This role requires a great deal of maturity from Darci as her character belongs to a dysfunctional family whose relationship is in shambles. At Mooregrace we work on strategies to make connections to scripts like these which are far away from our normal lives. ‘Darci’s acting style is suited to movies as its very subtle and extremely compelling to watch. She really knows herself for a youngster and never tries too hard. I hope this movie will be her window of opportunity.’ Said Studio Director Paul Moore. Do us proud Darci, nail it! We’re thinking of you.

PAUL FLOWN TO ‘WAGGA WAGGA’ FOR ARMY DVD

Attention!’ left, right, left, right…. That’s exactly what was being yelled at Studio Director Paul Moore last week. He scored an Australian Army Corporate DVD which was shot in and around the army barracks in Wagga Wagga. ‘Wow, what an experience. They flew me up their, put me up in this really nice hotel and fed me like a king. I almost felt like a celebrity for a second. The shoot was so exhausting though; there was so much dialogue to learn! We only had one take at getting a lot of the scenes because we shot around the training drills. It was hilarious at one point, the privates thought I was a real corporal and started saluting me – I was in all sorts, I pretty much just looked at them and smiled. It was so tempting to tell them to drop and give me 50 push up but I controlled myself...’ said Paul with a naughty smile.

BLAKE WORKS ON NEIGHBOURS AND DISNEY SERIES..

With big explosions and loud bangs I ran for the exit; people went flying as the train hurtled down the subway. At least this was what was happening in the new Nicholas Cage movie ‘Knowing’. I went down last Friday for a day of shooting. ‘The make-up was really fun – we had to pretend it was summer and wear paw-paw on our face to make us sweaty’. I met a lot of aspiring actors (including my old school drama teacher) who were all there getting their heads on the big screen. I have also worked on Neighbours as a supporter in the Bull-Ants footy match. I had so much fun seeing Professional Actors work and it has definitely proven that this is the career path I want!!

DARCI – REGULAR PRESENTER ON CH 10’S SCOPE!

This little actor just can’t put a foot wrong at the moment. Every Casting Director loves her work and the Scope Producers just can’t get enough of her! She has become a regular presenter on CH 10’s Scope series, shooting stories every month. Last week was quite hectic for the youngster – she shot two stories, receiving one of the scripts only a day before the shoot. ‘Many actors would crumble under this type of pressure but not Darci, she knows how good she is and doesn’t take herself to seriously – I love working with her!’ Said Studio Director Paul Moore. All this exposure hasn’t gone to her head luckily – Darci trains with the MG teens and still experiments each week during class! You go girl..

GEORGIA WORKS ON FINAL DAY OF PACIFIC SHOOT

After a week of intense military training, Georgia was pumped for her feature role in the USA Production ‘The Pacific’. ‘I had so much fun, the days were long but it gave me a chance to practice what we learnt in class. I really tried to visualize what I was doing and it was so funny, a couple of people came up to me after the scene and said they couldn’t stop watching what I was doing, you looked so into it they said. I was really in the moment and totally shut everything else out. I love hearing stuff like that – it means I’m moving forward!’ She said. Georgia also received a call-back for a TVC last week and has recently joined the MG teaching team. Proud of you mate!

BLAKE OVER-THE-MOON ABOUT ‘NEIGHBOURS’

If anyone deserved a reward it was good old Blake from Ballarat. He’s just scored his first agent and acting job in the same week, talk about good fortune! Blake will be spending the day on location, shooting a scene for Neighbours – he’s playing a supporter who can’t control his mouth. He’s part of a thirty five student team which Paul and Sarah teach ‘Film and TV’ in Ballarat at the BCMA. These eager beavers submitted a film into the 2007 Shootout film festival, narrowly missing out on the top ten but winning free entry into this year festival – Not bad for their first ever film…

CASTING AGENT HUNTS FOR LEAD ROLES @ MG….

Last Sunday forty of our most experienced child and teen actors battled for six lead roles in a new Australian Feature Film. A Leading Casting Directors visited Mooregrace in the hope of finding fresh faces for the movie. This free session was an amazing opportunity for MG students; it helped prepare them for future auditions while getting their name out there! Those who were unsuitable for these specific roles have already been contacted for other projects which are currently being cast. What an exciting time for MG students…

JORDAN WORKS ON ABC SERIES

He’s nine going on ninety – his name is Jordan Dunse. Talk about being confident for his age, this tiny MG actor has a massive personality. He’s recently worked on the ABC series ‘Carla Cametti’- A fast paced and fresh crime series with a young Italian female as its lead. Carla Cametti is a private investigator who loves her work. Digging the dirt, finding the truth and unearthing secrets.. Sounds pretty fun doesn’t it! He played a cheering supporter at a soccer match who argues with the referee. Jordan was also lucky enough to work on ‘Underbelly’ but unfortunately he ended up on the cutting room floor. I’m sure it will be different this time! Keep putting on those shows for your parents, they love them!

GEELONG FEATURE FILM TRAILOR….

Rob Baard from Film Source Australia already has one feature film under his belt but now its time for his next project. He is busy discussing his concept with FFC (Film Finance Corporation) who are the key to making this movie transform from a script to a film. Rob is also in negotiation with various distributors who will help distribute the movie internationally. He’s determined to shoot the entire movie around Geelong and surrounding areas using green-screen for superimposing various backdrops and effects.  Mooregrace students will also have the opportunity to audition for many of the roles, keep your eyes glued for details. <CLICK HERE to see the trailer! >

VIRTUAL TOUR – KID STYLE..

When the MG kid’s said they really wanted to show people around the studio themselves, we thought they were joking. Nope, they honestly meant what they said! So we set them a challenge to create a virtual tour of the Mooregrace headquarters – the only catch was, it must be fifty seconds or less. Boy did they love this one! Because the tour was filmed in one continuous camera shot it was important that everyone hit their cues and worked as a team. We knew the MG actors would eat this challenge for breakfast because using a camera isn’t anything new to them! At the end of ‘07 students made their own short films learning about camera shots, editing and script writing. <CLICK HERE to see the Virtual Tour! >

LOCATION SHOOT

At Mooregrace we love what we do which means ever class we teach is unique and full of exciting surprises! This week our adults explored the location-shoot. They shot a horror scene down near the river, tackling cold temperatures and dark lighting to produce some chilling results. Our Geelong studio is located in the arts hub of Geelong only 200m away from the Barwon River surrounded by dense bushland. The river and many more interesting locations will be explored throughout the year. ‘I’m amazed how much students lift on location; I suppose its less work for the imagination and more about being in the moment’ said Studio Director Sarah Grace.

Brent flown to Sydney for Feature Film…

Brent Trotter, a Ballarat student from BCMA who takes private lessons with Paul and Sarah has received a call-back for a new feature film called ‘Beautiful Kate’. Brent auditioned for the role of ‘Ned’ – a complex character who is confused about his relationship with his sister. ‘During the audition I felt so comfortable and relaxed; I definitely connected with Ned, I understand him’ he said. Brent has also lined up a singing / acting position on a popular Cruise-Ship, so if he doesn’t land the biggest job of his life – he’s still got an exciting six months ahead of him! Nice job buddy.

Paul scores NAB corporate…

Studio Director Paul Moore has scored another acting gig for the year. This time he’s playing a ‘Landscape Gardener’ who wants to start his own business. Paul plays the role of ‘Adrian’ – a character who soon finds himself in financial difficulty and is forced to deal with the consequences. This film follows Adrian’s journey as he speaks openly about his up’s and down’s. ‘The director wants to give this movie a loose documentary feel so I’m excited about finding the truth through improvisation. I just love getting paid for doing something I love!’ said Paul.

Sarah plays Guest-Role on Canal Rd Episode 4…

Make sure you’re glued to Channel 9 on May 7th at 8.30pm for Episode 4 of Canal Rd. ‘Canal Road is set in a thriving medical-legal centre in the heart of Melbourne. Sexy, thrilling and dangerous, the show blows open the secret lives of the professionals who work there and the clients who seek their help.’ Studio Director ‘Sarah Grace’ plays the sexy ‘Jamie Banks’ combining with Tottie Goldsmith who plays her mother, the pair cause plenty of trouble together! Nine MSN refers to Sarah as ‘Gorgeous’ in the latest series description. ‘Steve's attempt to land himself a high-profile case backfires when he falls into old habits and has sex with a gorgeous young client, as well as her mother.’ Download her episode now – <CLICK HERE >

Santo lands ‘bully’ role in short film…

Santo from the MG teens recently finished working along side Paul and Sarah at Mooregrace. He has really become a valuable member of the MG team who helped with teaching, directing and coaching other actors. Only days after his work experience, Santo applied for a RMIT student film which was listed on filmnet and he landed the role. He plays one of the supporting lead’s who is a real ‘bully’. ‘This character will be a real challenge for Santo as he is normally such a placid personality’ Said Studio Director Sarah Grace. We love seeing actors chase their own work – you never know what projects these directors may be working on next!

Gorgia prepares for Burger Inc TVC…

Georgia narrowly missed out on her previous audition but she wasn’t letting this role go to anyone else, that’s for sure! She has picked up a Burger Inc TVC which will be shooting this week. Georgia has also joined the MG teaching team, helping with directing, blocking and filming scenes. ‘I love working with people who are as passionate as Georgia, she really believes in herself and has so much drive!’ Said Studio Director Paul Moore. She’s down to the final four actors testing for the role of ‘Dillan’ - a free spirited, down-to-earth, passionate and witty young lady who struggles with being an outcast all her life. ‘I've had so much fun personalizing this role, I feel like I understand who Dillan is and what she's all about - I get her! ’ She said. The whole MG team has our fingers crossed for you Georgia.. You’re a winner anyway, they called you back!

Georgia Prepares for Feature Film Teaser!

Over the past term Georgia has worked hard to become a much more complex actor and now it’s paid off for her. She has recently been selected to audition for a new Aussie feature teaser which is being used to raise further private financing for the film. ‘Girls Can’t Kick’ is the inspiring story of an ordinary kid with an extraordinary dream to play professional Australian Rules football. Georgia is a valuable member of the MG team, regularly helping teach and tec classes. ‘We need more aussies to stop talking about making films and to actually do it!’ Said Studio Director Paul Moore. This opportunity will be such a positive experience for Georgia and we can’t wait to hear all about it!

Making Casting Directors fall in love with him is Adams way of tackling auditions. This MG junior isn’t fazed by the whole audition process, in fact he loves it! He’s confident yet cheeky while oozing a charismatic charm – for an 8 yr old that is! He’s recently scored the role of a school boy who will be part of a classroom scene in a Nicolas Cage Production called ‘Knowing’. These local Productions have helped many of our students gain valuable experience and credits on their resumes. Our team of actors appreciate the opportunity Peter. Thankyou!

When twelve year old Joel McMahon drives to Melbourne he can’t wipe that smile off his face – why? Because he’s on a massive Billboard! To top it off, he recently shot a Sprite commercial which will be airing soon. He was required to work with a number of other actors ducking and weaving around falling water balloons. "I had so much fun, it just felt like I was playing around with my mates – but I got paid for it!" he said. Congratulations mate and we can’t wait to see what they throw at you next.

Berry juice TVC Audition

Darci from the MG teens has really turned heads in the industry so far! Last week she was in the heat of the action again, auditioning for a new Berry Juice TVC at Chameleon Casting. The screen test was improvisation driven which required Darci to visualise her surroundings while sneaking around her house. ‘I would love to score this one, I’d get paid for doing what I love!’ she said. Keep your eyes glued on Channel 10’s SCOPE and you will see more of Darci’s fantastic work. Nice job!

Neighbours Vs The Pacific

Sally from the MG adults is getting her teeth stuck into more acting work. She felt like a celebrity when she was part of the US mini series ‘The Pacific’ with her very own stylist for the day. The studio was soon overflowing with 200 guests as the lights were dimmed and the films began. What an amazing show! Braydn has been busy making connections with a well known Australian celebrity who is working on original music for the film. To top it off he has also completed shooting eleven episodes on Neighbours. Amazing effort mate!!!
